Obituary for Marvin T. Hammond

Marvin T. Hammond 95 of E. Stroudsburg died on Friday Sept. 23, 2016 in the Slate Belt Nursing Home Bangor, Pa. He was the loving husband of Pearl G. (DeLong) Hammond with whom he had celebrated 70 years of marriage.

He was born in Broken Bow, Nebraska he was the son on the late William E. and Agnes C. (Davitt) Hammond. Marvin; in his early years worked in the oil fields in California and later Georgia and the Mississippi Gulf Coast areas holding various sales jobs. Finally in 1970 he returned to his beloved Nebraska where he worked in the Municipal Power Plant. Then in 1990 he moved to the E. Stroudsburg, Pa.to be near three of the children. Marvin worked at Investors Abstract Co. of Stroudsburg for several years

He was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church of Stroudsburg and as a Marine Veteran of WWII and a member of the VFW E. Stroudsburg Post#2540

In addition to his wife Pearl he is survived by 2 daughters: Patricia Ransel Husband Chris and Cecilia Halecki husband Walter both of E. Stroudsburg and 2 sons: George T. Hammond of Petal, MS and Roger E. Hammond wife Debra of Stroudsburg, 3 brothers: William Hammond of Wahoo, NE, Earl Hammond wife Beverly of Biloxi, MS and Larry Hammond wife Marlis of Carmel, IN. a sister Angenette Denesia husband Donald of Broken Bow, NE. 11 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Marvin was preceded in death by brothers Robert, John and Leonard and a sister Alnetta.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday Sept. 29, 2016 at 12:00noon from St. Luke’s Catholic Church 818 Main St. Stroudsburg with Fr. Carmen Perry as celebrant. Burial with full military honors will be in the Prospect Cemetery E. Stroudsburg, Pa. There will be a viewing on Wednesday Sept. 28, 2016 from 6-8:00pm at the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home Inc. 23 N. 9th.St.Stroudsburg, Pa. and on Thursday Sept. 29, 2016 from 11:00am until the time of the services at the church.
