Obituary for Guadalupe L. Dagayday

Guadalupe L. Dagayday also known as Inday age 66 of East Stroudsburg, PA passed on Friday Nov. 17, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Bartonsville, PA. with her loving family at her side. She was the wife of Dr. Fabian Dagayday Jr. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children Ann Mairi Dagayday, Fabian L. Dagayday III, Andrew Dagayday, Laura Liza Blaine and husband James Blaine, grandchildren Emma and Tayler Blaine, and her brothers Asterio A. Lagura and Martin Lagura Jr.

Many of us knew of Inday’s kindness and her dedication towards helping others. Her presence always lifted the room. Her many acts of kindness were shown through her love, compassion, and leadership. She adopted all those in need of a mother and even invited a lonely stranger to the home for Christmas. Her actions showed that she had a heart of a child with her unconditional love for everyone.

Born in Labason, Zamboanga Del Norte, Philippines. She was the daughter of the late Martin and Generosa (Alcala) Lagura Sr. She received her BSN at Bohol Provincial Hospital School of Nursing in 1971. She began her career as a nurse in 1971 at Misamis Occidental Provincial Hospital, Philippines. She was transferred Tangub City Emergency Hospital, as one of the youngest Director of Nursing in the Philippines at the age of 22. During this time, she was married on Valentine’s Day.

After her success in the Philippines, Inday migrated to the United States where she began her journey. She started working at Convalescent Center, in Atlantic City NJ as a Charge Nurse in 1974 and then moved to New York City as a Staff Nurse at Poly Clinic Geriatric Rehab in 1975. She then moved to Canada and worked as a nurse at St. John’s Psychiatric Hospital in 1976 followed by Forensic Psychiatric Hospital in Toronto Canada in 1978.

Inday returned to the United States and continued her nursing career at Christ Hospital in Jersey City, NJ in 1981 and then transferred to Jersey City Medical Center in 1985. During this time, Inday grew a special interest in the psychiatric field. Here, she became a certified Nursing Clinician in Psychiatry.

Inday was always compelled to help others. In 1987, she formed a nursing agency, ALFA Nursing Services where she staffed major hospitals in New Jersey. Within this time, Inday was the President of the Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey. In 1993, the business flourished and rebranded to ALFA Health Care Group where she staffed hospitals throughout the U.S. with nurses from all over the world.

Inday was a resident of the E. Stroudsburg, PA area for the past 20 years and prior to that of the New Jersey area. She was a former member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church of Stroudsburg, PA. She is a present member of St. Matthews Catholic Church of E. Stroudsburg, PA. She was also an advisor for the Oroquieta Charity Foundation where she served as an advisor and responsible for creating a chapter in the Poconos.

Inday’s altruism then lead her to further help people more personally. In 1997, she formed ALFA Manor Personal Care Facility, a long term care home for the mentally ill and elderly in Stroudsburg, PA.

Her caring for people continued to flourish as she joined the State of New Jersey Workforce at multiple state institutions: Senator G.W. Hagedorn Psychiatric Hospital as the Assistant Director of Nursing from 2002-2012, Totowa Developmental Center as the Director of Nursing from 2012-2015, and finally at Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital in Morris Plains, NJ as the Director of Nursing.

Inday has touched the lives of many (from staff, patients, family, to friends) and was loved by all. She was our well respected mentor and guided everyone to be the best version of themselves with her firm, fair, yet gentle way. She will be missed.
